Alright, I've been a fan in my time, of several people. Over the years, there are only a few that I'd say I'm a die hard fan of.. For some reason, I treat being a fan of music groups differently than being a fan of actors/actresses. I don't go to their websites as often. I pretty much go to check out when their next concert or CD is.. and that's about it (or to listen to some of their songs online). For actors in general, I do check out their websites, their IMDB profile, their movies or anything that I can rent on DVD. Over the years, the main obsessions have been Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Ken Branagh, Jeremy Northam, Jack Davenport, and a few others. As a kid, I remember being such a huge fan of Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson. But as the years have gone on, I've lost a bit of interest. That being said, I still enjoy seeing their movies and whatnot. But, I don't see EVERYTHING that they do. Nor do I go out of my way to read their interviews and whatnot. I think I've mellowed as I've aged. I still don't read or see every little thing on the actors I named above.
I think I'm maturing in this area, which is a bit weird. I've become a new fan of Gerard Butler's and I'm not buying everything I can lay my hands on with him; but I am buying a few that I've really enjoyed. I can't believe I'm getting picky in my old age. The one thing that really surprised me, and it probably shouldn't (because he IS a talented actor and seems to be a decent guy) .. is the amount of fans, really devoted fans that he has - and their comradeship (ok, not exactly the word I'm looking for, but close). It's awesome! I think it has a lot to do with how they perceive him and how well, he's interacted with them in the past. It's amazing how down to earth he seems to be and how comfortable and gracious he is with his fans. I'm not saying that most actors are not this way, I just have not heard of it often. Emma Thompson and Ken Branagh are an exception for me, because as a younger kid - I met them and they were really kind and seemed very down to earth. I guess, in these ramblings that I've discovered over the course of my life that I've redefined how I choose to be a fan of someone...
Ok, I'm rambling beyond belief here and it's not even cohesive.
